This is Patch 3.1.3.1 Final for the Doom 3 PC game.

Doom 3 is the final installment in the legendary series of first-person shooters for the PC. The first two installments were straightforward terrifying romps through Hell with little in the way of story. Doom 3 was released many years later and detailed a Mars colony invaded by entities from Hell. Doom 3 is well-known for the tremendous hype preceding it, and for being a genuinely terrifying game to play.

The game is set in the year 2145. The main character (an anonymous marine) is working on a research facility on Mars. Teleportation experiments lead to a malfunction of some kind, and a weird shockwave transforms most of the people on the base into Hellish zombies. The marine must fend off attacks while trying to make his way to Mars City.

The main character is armed with a variety of classic Doom weapons such as the shotgun, plasma rifle, chainsaw and even the BFG 9000.

The levels are very dark, which makes for plenty of places for enemies to lurk. This is made even more difficult by the game forcing the player to choose between holding a gun or a flashlight. This patch includes the "duct tape mod," which eliminates this poorly received concept. The environment is also quite small, creating a claustrophobic feel.

Doom 3 also has a four-player multi-player mode. Over time, the community created a modification to boost this up to accommodate up to 16 players. The multi-player modes are all versions of death matches, where the players are pitted against one another. Once the time limit is up, the player with the most kills wins.

This patch handles a number of issues found in the single player and multi-player modes. If you have any Doom 3 modifications installed, it is recommended that they be removed prior to installing this patch. Some of the mods may not be compatible with the new features.

Once this patch is installed, your progress will be reset on the current map. When you load the game, you will start at the beginning of that map with all of the items you've accrued thus far.

This patch also fixes rag doll bounciness, detecting LAN clients, command line parameter passing and a number of adjustments with what should now be for old and outdated sound cards. There are a number of adjustments for mod developers.

There are engine changes to support the Resurrection of Evil expansion pack, files to address server crashes, and synchronization of firing animations.

A complete .txt file of all of the patch changes is included when you download the patch.

Pros:

A classic game that is genuinely scary

The PC graphics are much better than the console version

Cons:

Voices are poorly synched

Too dark!
